Registration for the City’s summer camp programs is currently underway for City residents at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities’ 23 community center locations and will begin May 15 for non-City residents.
The department’s day camp program, the Great Summer Escape, is held at the community centers and is for children ages 6 to 12. It runs Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for nine-weeks, June 22 through August 21. Included are structured recreation and playground activities, games, cultural arts, swimming, golf, tennis, mini instructional camps, trips and entertainment.
Children attending these camps will also receive an hour of math and reading each day, and breakfast and lunch will be provided for free by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Summer Meals for Kids program.
Registration for the Great Summer Escape is $225 for City residents and $245 for non-City residents.
In addition, parents can register their children for the department’s specialty camps, which are held at various times and locations throughout the summer. These typically meet daily for one week and focus on a single activity, such as basketball, tennis, golf, soccer, dance, art and other special interests. Fees for these camps vary.
For a complete list of the specialty camps and other camp information, visit the department’s website at www.RichmondGov.com/parks and download the summer camp brochure.
